When Michelle first came to see me she was overweight and it was the first time in her life that she had been more than a stone over her average weight of 10st 3lbs. She was shocked to discover that she was actually nearly 2 stone over her usual weight, and had denied her weight gain by wearing baggy clothes to hide her expanding waistline. Like many other people, Michelle lived a hectic lifestyle, always going from meeting to meeting with little time to relax, see friends or even eat proper meals. Over time the weight had just crept up and up with Michelle thinking that she would do something about it soon. But tomorrow never comes, and so when Michelle arrived for her appointment the day to do something about it had finally arrived, and she was seizing it with both hands.

We sat and went through a Lifestyle MOT first of all – a detailed questionnaire that I have designed to look at many different aspects of her lifestyle and eating / social habits, to determine the good things that we could keep in place, and the bad things that needed some work. The main problem that we could see was that Michelle was taking on too much at work, and neglecting her social arena, whilst having to also plan time to prepare for her upcoming wedding. She also wasn’t eating properly or drinking enough water to prevent her body from becoming dehydrated, focussing instead on extra caffeine to keep her going, and just grabbing an often unhealthy snack whenever possible. We looked at her options for improving her dietary habits, and discussed how to re-hydrate the body effectively, so that she no longer felt sluggish and drained through the day, and would instead have much more energy to utilise.

Michelle was more than able to cope with the hectic daily routine that came with her job, but we wanted to make sure that she kept her blood sugar levels constant so that her energy levels would be even throughout the day, so together we worked on putting some strategies into place that would help her avoid eating the sweets and cakes that were doing the rounds in the office meetings, and allow her to eat healthy meals and snacks to promote the weight loss that she was looking for. Once we had set targets, Michelle was extremely focussed on what she needed to do in order to progress, and she began to see results very quickly.

We had a target to work towards, in this case just over a month, as there was a big event approaching that Michelle needed to look her best for – her wedding day! I felt that because of the short time limit, we would need to work fairly regularly in order to make the gains that Michelle needed. On average Michelle had 3 sessions per week, doing a workout that was designed to burn fat and increase muscle tone. It covered all areas of the body, but focus was added to the areas that Michelle felt that she wanted to do extra work on.

At the end of the month, Michelle had lost over 10lbs. Her body fat score had noticeably decreased, her body’s hydration levels had improved and her overall fitness levels had increased significantly, giving her more energy to cope with all of the demands that were being placed upon her, and allow her to live her life more effectively – and regain her social life at the same time. She looked fantastic on her wedding day and said that she felt great too!

Michelle’s results were the result of some hard work and dedication on her part. She wanted to work to get to where she needed to be, and her effort was rewarded.
